After that pregnancy tests shows positive and you realized it’s actually happening, it’s like you just entered a whole new world you knew existed but you didn’t really know much about it.
What next? What are the best products out there? What do I actually NEED? What will make my life easier? All those were questions I constantly asked myself.
I used to go on Target’s website and get so overwhelmed because I didn’t even know where to start. Or if I did know what I needed, I would always find myself thinking “there’s a million options out there, which one should I actually buy?” and would find myself typing “best baby whatever of 2019” on Google and getting even more overwhelmed by everyone’s opinions.
I wish somebody would’ve written a blog like this when I first got pregnant. And after a lot of research and testing, I am writing it now for all you expecting mommas!
I am sharing 15 of my ultimate must have products that we seriously use every single day and are obsessed with. Are you ready?
If you want to have great sleep at night, I am telling you, YOU NEED THIS. Sleep training is the best thing we could have ever done. Jord started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks old and dropped all her dream feedings at 13 weeks.
People would always ask us if we were tired and our answer would always be a “not at all”. I am telling you. Sleep training and putting your baby on a schedule is the key to a happy baby. And since we started sleep training since we got home from the hospital, NO TEARS WERE INVOLVED!
A lot of people are worried about nipple confusion. I don’t believe it exists.
Three days after giving birth, I had some post partum complications and I had to go to the ER and spend the night there. My mom stayed with Jord and fed her a bottle. So she was introduced to bottles and pacifiers pretty early on. She never had an issue going back and forth. The girl know what she wants! If she wants the paci, she won’t take a boob. If she wants the boob, she won’t take the paci. And these pacifiers were the only ones she liked.
They have a longer nipple to grab on to, so it’s harder for them to drop it. And they’re cute too, so that’s a plus.
We use this EVERY SINGLE DAY and all my pregnant friends have it because iT IS THAT GOOD. If you are planning to nurse your baby, you need this!
It is a changing table and a scale. You weight your baby before and after every feeding and it tells you exactly how much your baby ate. It gives you such peace of mind and literally saved my breast-feeding journey.
I would get so anxious about feeding Jord the first week because she would only eat for 10 minutes and not want any more. Hatch Grow helped me realize that she was getting more than enough in those 10 minutes and she was gaining weight constantly. My favorite baby item for sure.
From the same family as the Hatch Grow. The Rest is a night light and sound machine. What I love about this one is that you can adjust the volume.
We also have it connected to Alexa, so when we say “Alexa, nap time” music starts playing and the sound machine turns on. LIFE SAVER!
We are always getting asked what camera we use, and that is because IT IS AMAZING. It’s a Wi-Fi camera. A lot of people don’t like those kind of cameras but we love it. We usually just play it on our iPad at night and AirPlay it to our bedroom’s TV. And if Joel is away on a business trip or if we are having a date night and someone else is watching her, we can always log in and see her.
This camera has it all:
Cry detection: It records 30 secs before and after your baby cries so that you know exactly what happened.
Boundary protection: You can set an imaginary boundary around your baby so that whenever something goes in or out of that, it alerts you.
Microphone and Speaker: You can play music or white noise though it AND you can talk to your baby without having to go in the room.
We have both, Dock-a-Tot and Snuggle Me. And let me tell ya, Snuggle Me takes the cake.
First of all, is made out of organic cotton. And to top it all, IT’S BREATHABLE.
Babies and breathing are a SCARY thing, you want to make sure everything you have is breathable. It is also not stiff at all, which helps to help your newborn feel like they are still being held by you.
We tried so many swaddles and sleep sacks and this one has been our favorite. it has velcro, so its super easy to adjust AND super easy to open/close without completely unswaddleling for all those diaper changes at night when your baby is a newborn. It is also super easy to transition your baby out of the swaddle when they are ready.
We did one arm out first (we would rotate arms) and then both out. We are STILL using the same swaddle. We are obsessed.
Breathable mattress that does not feel as stiff as the floor, but is hard enough to meet all the baby safety requirements. AND IT ACTUALLY IS BREATHABLE.
I tested so many mattresses before, aka I would put them against my face and try to breathe, and this one is the ONLY ONE that passed the test.
The Nuna Mixx was my second favorite stroller. If I would’ve had it my way, I would’ve gotten the Mima Stroller. After a lot of research and Joel convincing me I didn’t want it that much, I went for Nuna because it was breathable and way more Florida weather friendly (Mima is leather, so not heat friendly at all). I am actually glad I did!
It is SO easy to maneuver, so lightweight, super convenient and very cute! We have gone everywhere with it and we have even traveled with it. We love it!
The only car seat I think is cute. if you know me, I am a sucker for aesthetically pleasing things. And Nuna rules the cuteness industry. Again, extremely lightweight and easy to carry around. Not bulky AT ALL and it comes with two different inserts that you can swap as your baby grows out of them. It also has three different heights for the straps and shoulder pads that you can also adjust when necessary.
Jord is in the last height, so I will update this blog post with additional toddler car seat information whenever we cross that bridge.
This was one of those “Best Bottles of 2019” Google finds. We have three different bottle brands and this by far is the cutest/most reliable one. It is so easy for Jord to hold it and the nipple of the bottle actually looks like a boob.
There are different sizes and different nipple flows, so just make sure you buy the one appropriate for your baby’s age.
You won’t need this until your baby is 4+ months old, but when you do, buying a baby cook will save you some money. Baby food is so expensive, especially when you are trying to do all organic. It has been so much easier for us to just make our own organic food and just store it. We spend $1.5 dollars making 15oz or more of any fruit or vegetable and we ensure it is actually organic. I even add some breast milk to the food if I think Jord could use the extra ounces.
But we do still buy pre-made Organic Baby Food for when we are out and about and she needs to eat. I am linking the one we get here.
Probably the number one FAQ people ask us is “where did you get that play mat?”. I don’t know why all baby toys have a tendency to be ugly. This play mat is the cutest play mat I found and Jord LOVES it.
She is almost 6 months and she still likes laying on it and playing with it. Absolutely worth the investment.
And I would say it’s pretty neutral for boys and girls.
Everything Gathre is a must for me.
It is made out of leather, which means it is SO easy to just wipe whenever it gets dirty.
They have two sizes, baby and toddler. We have both and we are obsessed with both. Everyone always asks us about it when we use it in public.
We have taken this mat EVERYWHERE. Even the beach. I am telling you guys, I need my entire house Gathre-fied. The least laundry I have to do, the better. I don’t have to worry about Jord spitting up on it, dropping food, or peeing on this thing. I can just wipe it down and it’s done.
We also have their bibs. BEST THING WE HAVE EVER BOUGHT.
And I thought I would add some extras for you guys since I always get asked about it. These are our favorite baby apps:
We love to keep track of how much Jord eats, diapers, sleep and milestones. This app is a NECESSITY. Trust me, you won’t remember what side you last fed your baby on and the scrunchy won’t do the trick.
The Wonder Weeks:
Have you ever wonder all the developmental changes and leaps your babies are going through? This app tells you EXACTLY what and when the leaps are happening. And not only that, it also helps you understand why they are happening and what you can do to help your baby go through them.
This is a must for traveling families, even if it’s traveling to grandma’s house down the road. Ha! Luna transforms your phone into a monitor, so if your baby needs to take a nap wherever you are, you can leave your phone there and watch what is happening from your husband’s phone.
